Edward Yang’s seminal film Yi Yi was screened in Malaysia for the very first time in March 2026. To coincide with this landmark event, WuBen presents a special issue exploring the film in depth, extending the cinematic experience into the realms of text, thought, and reflection.
This curated special issue is published in three volumes: Echoes, Flow, and Fragment. Each stands alone as a complete work while also engaging in dialogue with the others, collectively examining themes of time, cinema, and life.
Inside, readers will find: an introduction by Assistant Professor Leong Yew Sen (New Era University College), film review by Professor Ng Kee Ong and philosopher Kasi, and exclusive interviews, including NJ actor Wu Nien-jen, Malaysian filmmaker Ho Yu-Hang, and independent musician Azmyl Yunor. Through these conversations and analyses, the issue presents multiple perspectives on what is widely regarded as one of the 21st century’s greatest films.
Published with the support of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia and the Ministry of Culture of Taiwan, this bilingual edition (Chinese-English) is a limited collector’s release, perfect for cinephiles, scholars, and anyone who wants to engage more deeply with Yi Yi.
